Works very well for remote iTunes server
I bought this tiny app because I wanted to remote-control my Mac Mini iTunes server without having to use the iOS Remote app or Screensharing (which was my usual method). I wanted to be able to quickly play/pause music. WORKS GREAT for that purpose. And combined with notifications that pop up when the tune changes, this is a very handy little app.
A couple of minor complaints:
The app is not attractive. The design is overcrowded and a bit amateurish. Not incompetent, just visually way too busy. If they just cleaned it up and simplified it along the lines of most Mac apps (eliminate any design elements that aren’t critical, and flatten everything as much as possible) it’s be much easier on the eyes and less visually noisy. I’d love to see more Preferences so that I could eliminate buttons that I’m not interested in using (the Social icons, the iTunes icon at bottom left that doesn’t do much, the Ratings icons). And I’d love to be able to control the ordering and width of the menu display, so that this app would show up to the left of all other icons and leave more room for song title width (though that’s perhaps a missing Apple feature more than anything else).
Also, it doesn’t trigger my remote Mac’s Wake On Network Access, so I need to wake up my Mini by pinging it through the Remote iOS app or Screensharing if it’s asleep, in order to start playing music. But once music is playing, this app is great. It remembers between launches that I’m trying to control a remote Mini, so I don’t have to go re-set that Pref. And it lets me quickly play/pause and even do quick remote Search to find an album, which was unexpected and handy.
But despite these small complaints I’m pleased. The app has worked perfectly for me, and it was reasonably priced.
